Introduction

If you trade the Volatility 75 Index, you already know how fast conditions can change. SMILEY EA steps in as an automated assistant that combines trend following, mean reversion, and breakout ideas to help you adapt. Integrated directly into the MetaTrader 5 platform, the EA lets you set stop-loss, take-profit, and position size so that risk stays under control—even when you are away from the screen.

What Is SMILEY EA?

SMILEY EA is an Expert Advisor (EA) designed for the MetaTrader 5 (MT5) platform. It is built specifically for the Volatility 75 Index on the M5 timeframe and works with a minimum deposit of about $200. The EA offers:

• A choice between scalping and conservative modes
• Customisable stop-loss and take-profit levels
• Continuous operation on any Virtual Private Server (VPS)
• Dynamic risk management that adapts to changing market conditions

Because SMILEY EA runs on MT5, you do not need extra software. Once installed, it can open, manage, and close trades on its own, leaving you free to focus on research or other tasks.

How the Three-in-One Strategy Works

SMILEY EA combines three common trading ideas in one package. The blend aims to make the system more adaptable than an EA that follows a single method.

3.1 Trend Following

• Identifies the primary market direction on the M5 chart
• Enters positions that move with the prevailing trend
• Uses a moving average filter to avoid counter-trend setups

3.2 Mean Reversion

• Looks for short-term price stretches away from an average range
• Places smaller counter trades expecting price to swing back
• Adds stop-loss levels tight enough to limit drawdown

3.3 Breakout Trading

• Watches consolidation zones during lower volatility periods
• Opens trades when price breaks above or below recent ranges
• Combines ATR-based filters to avoid false breaks

By layering these methods, the EA tries to ride strong moves, fade quick spikes, and capture fresh breakouts—all while using fixed risk rules.

Configuring Risk Management

A key part of any automated system is risk control. SMILEY EA gives you three simple settings:

• Stop-Loss (pips) – Distance from entry where the EA exits if price moves against the trade.• Take-Profit (pips) – Level where profits are locked in.• Risk % per trade – The EA calculates lot size so each trade risks a fixed slice of the account.

Tip: Keep risk per trade small (for example, 1 % or less). This helps the EA weather losing streaks without deep drawdowns.

Scalping vs. Conservative Mode

SMILEY EA offers two profiles:

Scalpers may prefer tighter stops and smaller profit targets, hoping to collect many small wins.Conservative users aim for fewer, but larger trades with wider stops.

Switching modes is as easy as changing one input field, so you can test which style fits you best.

Why Trade the Volatility 75 Index?

1. Consistent movement – The index often shows clear intraday swings, ideal for short-term systems.
2. Availability – Brokers that offer V75 usually keep it open 24/7.
3. No earnings seasons – Being an index of volatility itself, it avoids stock-specific news shocks.
4. Growing community – Many traders share ideas on forums, making it easier to find tips and support.

Running an EA 24/7 with a VPS

Because SMILEY EA works around the clock, you need a stable internet line. A VPS (Virtual Private Server) lets your MT5 platform keep running even if your local PC is off.

Key points when choosing a VPS:

• Latency: Aim for servers located near your broker’s data centre.
• Uptime: Look for at least 99.9 % uptime guarantees.
• Memory: MT5 plus one chart rarely needs more than 1 GB RAM, but 2 GB offers headroom.
• Cost: Basic VPS plans often start at about $10 a month.

Best Practices and Practical Tips

1. Demo firstRun SMILEY EA on a demo account for at least two weeks. Confirm it places trades as expected.
2. Keep recordsExport trade history from MT5 weekly. Tracking data helps you see if performance drifts over time.
3. Stay updatedDevelopers sometimes release bug fixes or new features. Check for the latest version in your marketplace profile.
4. Limit overlapping systemsRunning multiple EAs on the same account can create conflicting orders. If you must, use a separate MT5 instance.
5. Check spreadsWider spreads during off-peak hours can affect scalping mode. If spreads spike, consider switching to conservative mode.
6. Backtest on recent dataMarkets change. Perform a fresh backtest every quarter to ensure settings remain in line with current volatility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q 1: Does SMILEY EA work on currency pairs?A: The EA is tuned for the Volatility 75 Index. Using it on other symbols may lead to different results. If you want to try, test on demo first.

Q 2: Can I change the timeframe?A: The default and tested timeframe is M5. Running it on M1 or H1 could alter strategy logic.

Q 3: How much starting capital do I need?A: The developer recommends at least $200. A larger balance can smooth out risk percentages.

Q 4: Is it fully set-and-forget?A: While SMILEY EA handles entries and exits, you should still monitor for platform errors, broker issues, or unexpected market gaps.

Q 5: Does it comply with FIFO rules?A: Check with your broker. Some positions may overlap in scalping mode, which could conflict with FIFO requirements.

Final Thoughts

SMILEY EA places three common trading ideas—trend following, mean reversion, and breakouts—into one easy-to-use Expert Advisor. Because it runs on MetaTrader 5 and supports straightforward risk settings, even newer traders can use it without much fuss. Whether you choose the faster scalping mode or the slower conservative mode, remember to keep risk small, monitor performance, and run the EA on a reliable VPS for best results.
